ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula fighting to keep the ANC intact against all odds.
The ruling party has been caught napping again ahead of the provincial and national election following recordings that were leaked during its recent national executive committee meeting.
Speaking in a leaked recording, President Cyril Ramaphosa urged ANC members to embark on getting 13 to 14 million votes in order to emerge victorious after the elections.
“For us to win the elections, we have to get about 13 to 14 million votes to be assured of a clear victory, so there’s much work to be done and if there’s leadership that can do it, it’s this leadership,” said Ramaphosa.
He also said the ANC campaign doesn’t have necessary energy and was not felt on the ground because the NEC members leave volunteers high and dry.
However, the ruling party’s head of election Mdumiseni Ntuli who presented a report of the ANC campaign plan said Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga successfully promoted the ANC projects through her department. He also encouraged MECs from all provinces to emulate Minister Chikunga.
In responding to the leaks, ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula said the ruling party will seek assistance from the State to deal with people who intercepted the ANC NEC private meetings. “We condemn the interception of our meetings as the ANC, and we urge them to refrain from this unfair treatment of the ANC as we have observed that other political parties do not get intercepted as they discuss their election activities and planning meetings. Allow the ANC to present its plans just as other political parties are given the same opportunity to do so without any interceptions,” he said.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said as part of DA’s complaint to the Public Protector over President Cyril Ramaphosa and the African National Congress’ (ANC) manipulation of public resources and abuse of state funds to supplement the ANC’s campaign for Election 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) will provide new and damning evidence confirming that the ruling party intends to use taxpayer money to help it win votes.
Steenhuisen said in a leaked recording from an ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in early April, it is revealed that the party’s top brass, including President Ramaphosa himself, have instructed senior public office bearers to manipulate the public purse to pay for the ANC’s election campaign.
“This would be done via a series of public relations exercises and paid media advertisements promoting state projects and governance where the ANC has governed over the last 30 years. Included in this strategy is a directive to tend to target service delivery failures days ahead of ANC campaign visits, to create the illusion of state delivery under the ANC. This desperate exploitation of state collapse, at the very hands of the ANC themselves, to win over voters ahead of a crucial national election is the ultimate form of ANC manipulation to date,” said the DA leader.
“This blatant abuse of taxpayer funds is proof of the way in which the ANC continues to manipulate and contort South African voters into believing that the governing party has the people’s interests at heart, all the while abusing each and every citizen through rampant corruption culminating in service delivery collapse. This new revelation is proof that the ANC is the ultimate emotional manipulator, gaslighting the South African electorate with false promises and smoke and mirrors at the taxpayers’ expense all to remain in power.”
