President Cyril Ramaphosa received thumbs up from the ANCYL who vowed to defend the ANC against “Mickey Mouse” opposition parties who are plotting to eject the ruling party from power.
Ramaphosa was supported by ANCYL president Collen Malatji, ANCYL provincial chairperson in Limpopo Tonny Rachoene, other ANCYL leaders and members ahead of the party’s 112th birthday celebration on Saturday.
In honouring the late former vibrant ANCYL president Peter Mokaba known as the Lion of the North, Ramaphosa told ANC supporters at Kwanyamazane Alliance Church in Mpumalanga that Mokaba’s contribution and bravery during the apartheid regime was inspirational.
“We meet to honour a great son of our soil and express our feelings towards the most admired youth league leader as we march toward our 112th-year rally and we march towards an overwhelming majority in the upcoming elections,” he said during his political lecture of Peter Mokaba.
Ramaphosa said the ANC has contributed positively to ensure that education becomes accessible and urged young people to engage the private sector to assist in rebuilding South Africa.
“It is you, the youth, which can help push the private sector and you who can be educated like the Sol Plaatjies and the Mahabanes. They were the young leaders of the ANC who had 10 000 PhDs and were so well qualified. We want comrades, and comrade Blade and I have set up a fund to support young people. It is the ANC youth league that must lead this process. The ANC Youth League must lead in many regards. This is the time when education is easily accessible and this is the time to excel and be serious with our education,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malatji addressed a Youth Engagement Session with Ramaphosa at the Communion Church in Mbombela on Thursday.
He echoed Ramaphosa’s who said the ANC “fears fokol” as the so called “Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck” organisations will not amount to anything the ANC has done during the cutting cake ceremony of celebrating 112 years of the ANC at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Monday.
Ramaphosa said he remains unfazed by the mushrooming of political parties in the country stressing that the ruling has proved to be the strongest party for that past 30 years.
Malatji said: “We know after we have resolved these issues, these mickey mouse organisations led by criminals will not have voters because people will know it’s only the ANC that will resolve their problems. “Everyone who’s a criminal and kicked out of the ANC, when they’re bored with their wives, children and families, the first thing they think of is to form a political party, go to parliament and reverse the gains of freedom. Our people will no longer be used by opportunists who take advantage of the issues in our country. Even those who hate the people of South Africa now claim to have the solutions of our country.
“You can’t be kicked out as a criminal and somehow become clean when you have your own party, when people told us they don’t vote for ANC because it is associated with corruption. When we act on corruption, people form their political parties and say now they’re clean. Since when?”
Malatji also called on Ramaphosa to fire government officials who are not doing their job, saying South Africa’s youth was available and ready to serve.
He called President Ramaphosa to create more job opportunities and fire lazy government officials. Malatji said however that following the presentations of several young people who benefited from government programmes, it was clear that the past 30 years of an ANC-led government were not wasted years calling on Ramaphosa to create more job opportunities.
Limpopo ANCYL provincial chairperson Rachoene said: “The greatest wisdom is for the youth to invest in education and respect their elders and fight for their rights to improve the country. The ANCYL will emulate its former leaders like Peter Mokaba who fought fearlessly against apartheid regime police brutality aimed at black people. We remain unfazed about former leaders who are determined to destroy our glorious movement of John Dube, Oliva Tambo, Nelson Mandela and other leaders who died for our freedom.”
Earlier, ANC Peter Mokaba Regional chairperson John Makoro Mpe also honoured the late political icon in Limpopo by celebrating his life with the ANCYL and visiting his grave in appreciation for his contribution in the struggle against architectures and agents of apartheid regime.
