Bafana Bafana took a massive step towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification with a composed 2-0 victory over Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Tuesday night, extending their lead at the top of Group C.

The ever-green striker Lyle Foster found the back of the net during the 53rd minutes and Jayde Adams who came from the bench secured the second goal on the 84th minutes to reinvigorate Bafana Bafana’s dream of playing for the World Cup.

This happened while the national team nearly dropped points after walloping their neighbours Lesotho 2-0 in Limpopo at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane last Friday night by playing Tebogo Mokwena illegitimately who got 2 yellow cards.

Mokoena received a yellow card in their opening match against Benin and another in the following match against Zimbabwe. According to FIFA’s regulations, a player who accumulates two yellow cards in separate matches must serve a one-match suspension. Mokoena should not have featured in the Lesotho encounter.

Lesotho however failed to detect the blunder and missed the 24-hour deadline to report the matter to the match commissioner, CAF or FIFA. This gave birth to the disaster been averted and SAFA officials can breathe a sigh of relief.
