Chabane’s family lambasts Zuma and MK party for political opportunism tendencies

The family of the late ANC stalwart Collins Chabane has rejected former president Jacob Zuma and his cronies of the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party plan to visit the late ANC stalwart grave site on Friday.

Zuma suffered another blow after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) barred him from contesting 2024 general election because he has a criminal record.

The family was responding to messages doing the rounds in social media which perplexed them. The political icon’s family said Zuma’s visit will violate Chabane’s principles and ethics that he lived for as a disciplined member of the ANC.

Collins Chabane Foundation also added its voice to prevent Zuma and his MK party allies through its chairperson Professor Muxe Nkondo who said Zuma will only be allowed to visit Collins Chabane’s grave only in his personal capacity.

“We are really disheartened that somebody wants to undermine his work with the ANC and what is associated with Collins Chabane.  Please don’t violate the integrity of the ANC and rope in Collins Chabane. We reject that act of a very bad faith,” said Nkondo.

“We are here to protect his legacy and promote the ideas in his work during his lifetime. He was a distinguished member of the ANC and lived all his life consistent with the principles and norms of the party.”

Percy Chabane said his family will not allow his brother’s name who was the Minister in Presidency during Zuma’s term as president to be retrospectively used to destroy the ruling party because he was a consummate loyal leader and member.

Meanwhile, Peter “Dambuza” Malada’s family also echoed Chabane’s family of dismissing Zuma and his MK party followers to visit his grave site. The family called Zuma and MK party to refrain from political opportunism because the late Dambuza was a committed member of the ANC and its military wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe, and its ideals.

Former president Jacob Zuma of Umkhonto we Sizwe party told to refrain from political opportunism by the late Collins Chabane's family.
