Commander in Chief of Peter Mokaba Region John Makoro Mpe with Cllr Adv Walter Nkuna.
ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson and Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe has congratulated Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality for retaining Ward17 during the recent by-elections.
Mayor Makoro who didn’t mince his words of saying that the most potent weapon is to put people first and accelerate the spirit of Ubuntu after leading by example of achieving clean audits in his administrations as a former Capricorn District Municipality and currently as Polokwane Executive Mayor said ANC supporters in Limpopo deserves better service delivery without trepidation after 74% votes during the recent national and general elections.
When congratulating, he said it is better to die for the idea that will live than to live for the idea that die just like Steve Bantu Biko uttered. “We are confident that comrade Nkuna is equal to the task. His disciple and humility clearly demonstrated that the community has confidence in his leadership. He is a consummate leader who is humble and the community has spoken. After every storm great things will emerge for the darkness is never permanent for the sun will rise tomorrow. We want to thank ANC members and its volunteers in Limpopo who worked tirelessly during the elections to ensure that Limpopo emerges victorious with 74% votes without trepidation. I’m also acknowledging and congratulating and thanking all ANC members countrywide for voting for our revolutionary movement,” Makoro said.
Mpe also thanked Lepelle Nkumpi Executive Mayor Merriam Molala, ANC Chief Whip Given Sello and Speaker Joyce Nkoabela the entire Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality for ensuring that the ANC remain triumphant.
“We congratulate the newly elected member of the Council of Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality, Cde Walter Nkune, and wish him all the best on his new responsibilities. Our message to him is clear – serve our people diligently and serve them with pride. As we celebrate this victory, we reaffirm that the ANC remains the most potent weapon at the disposal of our people for their total liberation and to build a better life for all. We further recommit ourselves to continue to accelerate basic service delivery including improving access to quality water, expanding access to electricity with a key focus on new extensions and rolling out infrastructure projects to improve the state of our roads,” Makoro.
He also urged ANC leaders in Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality to refrain internal squabbles and factionalism saying that is the recipe to narcissism and calamity which destroy the ANC which is a liberation movement.
“We must appreciate that the Region entered the general elections just 36 days after participating in the Ward 10 Polokwane by-elections. We further had to prepare for the Ward 17 Lepelle-Nkumpi by-elections within a space of 12 days following the general elections. Essentially, we have participated in three elections in a period of less than two months, registering resounding victories in each,” Mpe said.
“The ANC in the Region wishes to convey a message of sincere gratitude to all South Africans who came out in their large numbers to exercise their hard-won democratic right to vote. It is truly exciting that 58.6% of the electorate casted their vote on May 29. These elections coincided with the 30th anniversary of our democratic breakthrough marking three decades since South Africans of all races participated in the watershed first democratic elections in 1994.”
“By exercising their right to vote, millions of our people demonstrated that our freedom was never free and that we must continue with our efforts to consolidate a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa.
These elections testified to the fact that Limpopo in general and Peter Mokaba Region in particular remains the home of the African National Congress. The ANC received over one million votes in the province ensuring that we won the elections by 74%.”
The ANC in the Region achieved the following results per municipality:
· Polokwane – 60%
· Lepelle-Nkumpi – 69%
· Blouberg – 77%
· Molemole – 76%
Mpe said: “We are dearly grateful for the humbling responsibility that our people have once more bestowed upon the African National Congress. We do acknowledge, however, that whilst the ANC remains the most supported political party at a national level, we dipped below 50% for the first time since 1994. This means that though a lot has been done to build a better life for all since the advent of democracy, we should move with amplified speed to transform the lived realities of our people as part of our renewal programme.”
“The fact that the ANC remains the largest political party by support enjoins us to play a critical role in the formation of the 7th democratic government. We will, thus, be led by the wisdom of the national leadership in the quest to form a Government of National Unity. The ANC warmly welcomes the outcomes of the Ward 17 Lepelle-Nkumpi by-elections held on 11 June 2024. In yet another resounding fashion, the ANC garnered 1,015 of the votes to win the Ward by a decisive margin of 69.71%. We want to thank the people of Ward 17 Lepelle-Nkumpi for once again believing in the ANC and bestowing us with a decisive mandate to deliver quality services. We further want to send a message of gratitude to all our leaders, members, the Leagues, Alliance partners, volunteers and election teams for working tirelessly for the victory of the ANC.”
