Gauteng cabinet decree delayed following DA's debacles

ANC provincial chairperson and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has refuted claims that ANC and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed him to appoint member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) into his provincial cabinet.

This follows after reports that Lesufi postponed announcing his cabinet on Sunday which raised a lot of eyebrows within the South African society before the much-anticipated 7th administration Government of National Unity cabinet pronouncement by President Ramaphosa who was inaugurated last week.

Responding on his X page, Lesufi wrote: “No such thing happened. It’s your own imagination. So sad that your publication now relies on cheap propaganda.”

Reportedly, the DA had initially requested four MEC positions, while Lesufi countered with an offer of three positions.

According to the senior ANC source in Gauteng Lesufi was ready to proceed without the DA but Ramaphosa intervened.

The ANC source told the media that Ramaphosa’s directive was clear that the t DA’s inclusion was necessary to maintain the spirit of the GNU and that Premier Lesufi must accommodate this directive despite the initial breakdown in negotiations.
