Premier of Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba applauded all stake holders who played an important role in ensuring that they enhance the lives of the learners in Limpopo.

The class of 2024 Matric Matric Activation Event hosted by  Sekhukhune District piloted by Ngwedi Mabilo, Managing Director of Legare Mining Services(PTY)Ltd at Legaletlwa Secondary School which was held September last year to boost matric results in Sekhukhune as well as contributing to 85% pass mark rate from previously 79.5% is the real testimony of a consummate leader who invest in communities which are welcomed by Premier Ramathuba and her administration. Indeed, various members of the community thanked

Mabilo for his selfless motivational outstanding contribution.

During her State of the Province (SOPA) 2025 address, Premier Ramathuba said: “Province has witnessed a remarkable rise in Grade 12 (matric) learner performance, with the overall pass rate soaring from 79.5% in 2023 to 85.1% in 2024. We want to take this opportunity to once more congratulate the Matric Class of 2024 which has made us proud as a province and helped us to be counted amongst the top 6 in the country. From having been at some stage, the permanent resident of number 9 to where we are today is no mean feat.

She said however that her Limpopo administration new goal is to surpass 85% pass rate to finally reach 90% in the long-term."

“Our words of special appreciation go to the sterling political leadership of our MEC, Vho-Nyamuofhe (Muofhandala) Mavhungu LeruleRamakhanya, mukololo wa Songozwi thavha ya Vhadzanani. Muilafuri muila gwanda la nari and all her generals, from our Acting HOD to the last educator. Our new goal is to elevate this pass rate to surpass the current, with aspirations to finally reach 90% in the long-term. In this digital age, we are embracing the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) by equipping schools with technology that enhances teaching and learning. This commitment to innovation is not just about keeping pace; it is about leading the charge into a future where our learners are prepared to thrive. The Limpopo Department of Education is also placing focused attention on planning, resourcing and delivery.”

Mabilo earlier said the key is to turn those dreams into reality, by adopting work ethics and hunger to be the best, always exude determination and dedication. “The theme of message today is “Where does your future lie?” Brothers and Sisters, it all starts with a dream, Martin Luther had a dream and you must live the Dream. Steve Biko said “it is better to die for a dream that is going to live than to live for a dream that is going to die”.  Brothers and Sisters we have to dream bigger to make the biggest impact, Dream to be on the moon, should you miss it at least you should be among the stars”.”

He however urged the leaner to make good choices. “Success is almost unattainable, almost impossible without the realization of the importance of good attitude. Attitude to your work, attitude to your books, studies, teachers, parents and fellow pupils. Positive attitude is an unbeatable attribute of almost every success story as well as success people,” Mabilo added.

Mabilo further said revolution in communication technology has created a global economy of high-tech, high wage job that can be located anywhere there’s an internet connection, this is an economy where the most valuable skill you can have is your knowledge.

“Education fellow brothers and sisters is now the currency of the current information age. Education is no longer a pathway to opportunity and success, it is now a pre-requisite and a survival necessity. Today among you I see future Engineers, Medical doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, and great Leaders of our nation, something the country desperately needs. It is your attitude towards education, your dedication and commitment as well as your perseverance and courage that will make you realize all of your dreams,” Mabilo added.

“To move away from the characterization of a Lost Generation … and the so-called Present-Day Syndrome where our youth are referred to as are Lazy, as having no will power to succeed, seemingly thinking that the world owe you something, having no respect, lacking interest, indulging in drug and alcohol abuse. What we need is the type of Matriculant who understands that he/she is not competing with Matriculants in her class, not in the province not in South Africa not in Africa ..We need a Matriculant who understands that she/he competes with the whole world …You unfortunately will compete for diminishing resources with all learners across the Globe …you better pull up your socks !!!  Learn to Emulate the 1796 youth with the present-day challenges in mind, exude the same energy levels waging a new war on current issues facing the youth today.”

He concluded by emphasizing and advising the youth stressing that the country need respectable youth full of humility and a sense of responsibility.

“You are after all our leaders of tomorrow, responsibility does not start tomorrow, it starts today, have good fun without indulging in bad behavior’ ’remember time and tide wait for no man.We need you to be humble and always go to seek new knowledge. We need a generation of readers, a generation which reads to broaden their knowledge horizon beyond your school work, beyond what is taught in class, beyond what is written in prescribed school textbooks. We need a youth that is in touch with the ever changing dynamics of the world issues of today,” Mabilu said.
