The outgoing Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha and his administration has been rocked by a maladministration dirty laundry scandal which has been found naked after failing to use over R1,5 billion in the 2022/23 financial year budget which was returned to the national Treasury department.
This is not for the first time that emperor Mathabatha’s castle has been entangled in the same unorthodox trends of failing to use its budget meant to improve the lives of the people in Limpopo.
Mathabatha and his cabinet in Limpopo seemingly returned over a billion rand in unspent amounts from their allocated budgets; education R523.3 million, health R570.5 million, public works, roads and Infrastructure R 226.1 million, agriculture R98.7 million, social development R72.4 million, legislature R45.1 million, transport and community safety R40.7 million, premier’s office R16 million, treasury R14 million, economic development, environment and tourism R8.4 million.
Limpopo provincial spokesperson Ndavhe Ramakuela said Mathabatha's administration only underspent about R122 million.
Bolsheviks Party national general secretary Seun Mogotji lambasted Mathabatha and his troops for incompetence and maladministration. “The current developments that he failed to use over 1 billion clearly states that Mathabatha is not a consummate leader. He was busy sleeping when his cabinet failed to accelerate service delivery to the people. This is not the first time that Mathabatha failed to use the budget allocated to the Limpopo administration. He is not a liability to the ANC only but to the people of Limpopo,” said Mogotji.
Lindi Wilson, DA Limpopo spokesperson said the DA in Limpopo has written to premier Mathabatha for more details and clarity on the matter.
“We are extremely concerned by the slow pace of spending given that the funds could have been used to develop the province and address different challenges across the different departments. These funds could have provided opportunities to improve schools, hospitals and clinics, fund social development programmes and address infrastructure and vacancy challenges in the province. The failure to spend available funds is unacceptable and a slap in the face to Limpopo residents who continue to suffer as a result of inadequate services.”
Mogotsi further said: “He failed the people of Limpopo, himself and his non-existing legacy. His time in office was characterised by allegations of corruption and cover ups of corrupt officials. Among his many failures, Mathabatha failed to implement Adv Terry Motau and the Public Protector's recommendations on the VBS bank scandal. Instead, he promoted one of the comrades implicated in the VBS to a more senior position of MEC of community safety putting her in charge of police in the province who were supposed to investigate and make arrests on the matter. Chupu made sure he protects his fellow comrades no matter what it takes.”
