Gauteng Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile has tabled the province of gold 7th administration 2025 provincial budget at the legislature in the province on Tuesday of R527.2bn over the next three years.
The budget, presented in the provincial legislature, reflects an annual rate of 3%, increasing from R171.5bn in the 2025/26 financial year to R175.1bn in 2026/27, before reaching R180.5 bn in 2027/28.
Maile delivered Gauteng's R527.2bn over the next three years on Tuesday and reassured the public that despite these reductions, the budget remains funded and without a deficit.
He said however that the term 2024-2029 government budget is less by R51bn emphasising that the cuts relate to the equitable share as a result of the performance of the economy.
MEC Maile further said though they got an increase in the provincial equitable share (PES) amount to R133.9bn in 2025/2026, this was a figure much lower than what they hoped for.
He confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s national government is working to stabilise debt, which is projected to exceed R400bn, and as a result, is not increasing spending.
This national stance has led to budget cuts amounting to R51bn, the loss of R6bn due to the Stats SA population correction, and an additional R20bn for e-toll payments.
Maile said the total budget will grow at an annual average of 3% until the 2027/28 financial year.
“The 2025 MTEF Budget for the Gauteng Provincial Government that we are tabling today amounts to over half a trillion rand, R527.2 billion to be precise, over the medium term. It grows at an annual average of 3% from R171.5 billion in 2025/26 to R175.1 billion in 2026/27 before reaching R180.5 billion in 2027/28 financial year," the MEC announced.
Maile also said the provincial economy continues to grow above the national rate. He says it grew by 1.3% in 2024, and it is expected to rise to 1.8% in 2025 before reaching 2% in 2026.

In relation to the G20, Maile said its priorities articulated by Gauteng Premier Lesufi will not be compromised, meaning roads must be fixed, traffic lights must function, and we must fight crime in the inner city.
