MEC Rachoene Urged the public to give plethora respect to traditional leaders

Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC Tonny Rachoene has urged the public to respect traditional leaders and embrace their heritage, values, cultures and beliefs without trepidation.

He said this during the Mathibela Heritage Day celebration event held at Bushbuckridge convened by Contralesa President Honourable Kgoshi L M Mokoena.

“I must not be confused to being critical of accepting development from young people who are mainly informed by the west. While we accept global integration, the reality is maintaining African culture and heritage is of paramount importance,” MEC Rachoene said.

“We are today honoured to join Bakwena to celebrate this heritage day. As the ANC led Government we really appreciate the good working relationship that we have with the Traditional leadership, as an institution. Events of this nature accord us an opportunity to converge and celebrate where we come from as Africans. They further provide us with an opportunity to impart heritage knowledge to our new generation which is immersed in the western tradition and culture.”

He said further that the event coincides well with the Heritage month and tourism month that we are all celebrating as a nation.

“This platform presents an opportunity for all of us to showcase our history, tradition and culture. It is a display of myriads of cultural values and norms, as we are expecting people from different cultural background to be present here today.  As the MEC responsible for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in

Limpopo, as well as the Chairperson of the ANCYL in the province, I have special working relations with our Magoshi,” MEC said.

He said royal leaders have played an active role to help the ANC in Limpopo to attain an overwhelming victory during the May 29th General Elections which gave birth to Limpopo ANC to attain a 74% electoral victory because the traditional leaders still had hope in the ANC and its leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the Limpopo provincial government led by Limpopo first female Premier Dr Phophi “Maswara thipa ka bogaleng” Ramathuba, Rachoene concluded: "It is therefore imperative we continue to appreciate the role they played and accord them all the respect they deserve. The only way of

appreciating our traditional leaders is to ensure that we deliver improved services in communities.”
