MEC Rachoene welcomes second cohort of about 168, creates more than 300 permanent jobs and boost Limpopo economic growth

MEC Tonny Rachoene welcoming 168 new permanent employees.


Limpopo Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC Tonny Rachoene is a living testimony that the greatest weapon is to emancipate the society from all forms of depressing by creating more 342 jobs barley in four months since he was deployed to serve into Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba’s cabinet.


MEC Rachoene who received a lot of jubilant admirations made his intentions clear that he will leave no stone unturned after he heeded to the call by Premier Ramathuba’s 7th administration of creating employment when he officially welcomed second cohorts of 168 permanent employees consisting of the males, females, the youth and people leaving with disabilities  on Monday at Nirvana Hall  on Tuesday 10am after employing 174 people permanently which he confirmed during his State of Province Address debate recently.  


More than 150 employees are set to be loading in May and will be welcome in August this year. Notably, the hardworking MEC also adhered to the call made by the ANCYL in the province that young people must be empowered and employed because they are the future of tomorrow. MEC Rachoene said it is important to respond positively to President Cyril Ramaphosa's call of leaving no one behind and serving the community with humility, respect unconditionally and contribute to enhance their lives.


MEC Rachoene said it is also important to highlight that these are just not numbers, but a work force which will translate directly to improved service delivery. “As the seventh administration we understand well that there must be collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to create jobs. We are seeing government departments and state-owned entities redoubling their efforts to respond to this call,” he said.

MEC Rachoene has played a significant role in creating employment opportunities, particularly in the Limpopo province. He has contributed:

 

1. Dikgerekgere program: As MEC for Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure, Rachoene launched the Dikgerekgere program, which aimed to rehabilitate gravel roads in the province. The program created over 300 jobs, including young people.

2. Infrastructure development: Rachoene has overseen various infrastructure development projects in Limpopo, including road construction and maintenance. These projects have created employment opportunities for locals.

3. Youth empowerment: Through his role in the ANCYL, Rachoene has advocated for youth empowerment and job creation. He has supported initiatives that provide training and skills development for young people, enabling them to access employment opportunities.

4. Community-based projects: Rachoene has initiated community-based projects that focus on creating jobs and stimulating local economic growth. These projects have helped to reduce unemployment and poverty in the province.


Overall, Rachoene's efforts have contributed to creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth in Limpopo.

He said however that his department will continue to accelerate its mandate of the famous “Dikgerekgere Wednesday” service delivery project which was launched in July 2024. “This initiative focuses on grading, re-gravelling, and clearing roads across the province. Importantly, by the end of March we shall have created over 300 permanent jobs for unemployed youth, ensuring that our infrastructure projects also serve as catalysts for employment. By maintaining our roads, we not only improve transportation but also instil a sense of ownership and pride among our youth. This will further strengthen government capacity through our 36 cost centres,” MEC said.


Rachoene said in alignment with the Premier’s vision for job creation his department launched the “Dikgerekgere Wednesday” service delivery project in July 2024. “This initiative focuses on grading, re-gravelling, and clearing roads across the province. The Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure led by the evergreen  Rachoene continued with clean governance by engaging with its stakeholders on service delivery related matters, as part of the #StakeholdersTuesdaysengagement session.


Rachoene also enjoys support from Limpopo Premier Ramathuba who have him a mandate to prioritize roads that are worthy  and create jobs in Limpopo and accelerating service delivery through his various initiates such as; particularly on Infrastructural development such as; #7thAdministration , #DiloDiChenchitje , #MiningIndaba25 , #DikgerekgereWednesdays , #StakeholdersTuesdays , #LetsGrowLimpopoTogether and #LeaveNoOneBehind.
