Polokwane Executive Mayor John Makoro Mpe has condemned gender-based violence tendencies against women and children.

Mpe who is also the ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson said this during his visit to Mokwele family at Luthuli Park residential area who lost their daughter Alexia Mpho Mokwele who was killed by a 30-year-old boyfriend.

“We condemn such barbaric acts without trepidation. The ANC and Polokwane Municipality are here to comfort you. We didn’t hesitate to come and comfort you after hearing the devastating and sad news that a person has decided to take someone’s life. We are hurt that such barbaric acts are happening within our society.  We find this peculiar because in other countries such things don’t happen. The ANC and its leadership under Polokwane municipality will make sure that all things go well. We don’t want to only see our people when we conduct door to door campaigns,” said Mpe.

“We will also come when you are happy or mourning. We as men are discontent to learn that such things are happening because men must build families with their partners do not kill them.  When such things happen, I’m of the view that the perpetrator is suffering from a mental disorder which contaminates families and the entire society. And that must be condemned without fear. An injury to the mind is an injury to a person, an injury to a person is an injury to the family, an injury to the community. We must defuse this wrong mentality about life.”

Mpe also acknowledged Limpopo first female Premier Phophi Ramathuba and Capricorn Region Mamedupi Teffo, ANC volunteers and councillors for also paying visit to Mokwele family.

He also took a swipe at his political detractors stressing that the ANC will not be subjected to the so-called no-go area. “We are not going to claim Seshego for our home as the ANC. Nobody is going to stop us from going to all the areas in Seshego. Let me put it to you there is no such thing called a no-go area. We are everywhere as the ANC. We are not those forces of doom and gloom counterrevolutionary liars who know our people when attending parties. They smoke weed and lie to our people speaking nonsense while interviewed on podcasts.  They were given time to lead however they failed drastically to accelerate service delivery and lead our people. That’s absolute bunkum and ridiculous,” Mpe said.
