The first female elected Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has vowed to turn things around by empowering the youth and creating more jobs in the province.
She said this during Youth Day Celebration event in Polokwane on Sunday which was attended by Deputy President Paul Mashatile, acting Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Maropeng Ramokgopa, Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola, ANC Capricorn Regional Chairperson and Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe, ANCYL provincial Chairperson Tonny Rachoene, ANCYWL leader Mamedupi Teffo.
Ramathuba who was well received by the crowd during her keynote address said the youth is the future of tomorrow therefore it’s time to ensure that they are employed in various structures in administration after the ANC in Limpopo received 74 percent votes during the recent national and provincial elections.
She also saluted former ANCYL president Peter Mokaba from Mankweng who fought fearlessly as a young leader urging the youth to emulate him.
Ramathuba, who served as the province's MEC for Health, also became Limpopo's first woman premier.
“It is my singular honour and a rare privilege to assume this responsibility entrusted upon me by the African National Congress and the people of my beloved province, Limpopo,” Ramathuba said in her acceptance speech. "I am more than humbled by your faith and the confidence you have shown in me as the first democratically elected female premier of this great province."
Makoma Makhurupetje was elected Speaker and Tebogo Mamorobela as her deputy.
Rachoene said Ramathuba is equal to the task, cementing that the ANCYL in Limpopo will support her unreservedly without trepidation. “We remain confident in comrade Ramathuba who has always empowered the youth. She is a consummate leader who practices what she sermonises.”
