President Cyril Ramaphosa has visited the families of five ANC members in Limpopo who died after their bus was involved in an accident while on their way to Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga to celebrate 112 years of the ruling party.
Upon his arrival in Limpopo, Ramaphosa's first stop was to visit other ANC members who got injured at Mankweng provincial hospital after their bus overturned while on their way to attend ANC January 8 statement on Saturday.
Ramaphosa was accompanied by Polokwane Executive Mayor John Makoro Mpe, second deputy secretary general Maropene Ramokgopa, Health MEC Poppy Ramathuba, ANC provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe and his deputy Baesekop Makamu, ANCYL provincial chairperson Tonny Rachuene , ANC provincial spokesperson Jimmy Machaka, Capricorn Region Mayor Mamedupi Teffo amongst other leaders.
Outgoing Limpopo Premier and ANC provincial chairperson Stan Mathabatha also attended the ANC mandate to give comfort to its members following their tragic experience while on their way to capacitate Mbombela stadium.
It was after a long time that Mathabatha was seen next to President Ramaphosa. This prompted some ANC PEC member to accuse him (Mathabatha) of avoiding Ramaphosa and attending private parties with his allies every time he (Ramaphosa) visited the province even during his official visits and opted to send his crony Treasury MEC Charley Sekoati who is not even a member of ANC PEC in Limpopo.
Ramaphosa met with the families of the deceased and those who were injured at Eisleben Community Hall. He also expressed his condolences to the families while also comforting those who were injured. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and that’s why I felt to come and pay respect personally and on behalf of the NEC of the ANC. And also pay my condolences, we are deeply saddened by what has happened. We have said that we will take responsibility for all the arrangements that need to be made to put them to rest. We will take over, of course with your cooperation, your guidance and your leadership in the whole process of burying them. We have also said that we will be supportive in all efforts whether for social psychoanalysis or assistance,” Ramaphosa said.
Health MEC Ramathuba received thumbs up for ensuring that the health sector in Limpopo is intact.
Mayor Mpe said: “The region sends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives. We wish a swift recovery to all our comrades currently undergoing treatment.”
Rachoene said: “As comrades we must continue to support each other even during difficult times. We must accelerate the spirit of humility which is Ubuntu. We wish our comrades speedy recovery and send deepest condolences to the families of those who passed on.”
