Scopa boss in Limpopo content about MEC Rachoene’s service delivery commitment.

The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) in Limpopo Hon Esther Mokwele said the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Tonny Rachoene  and his administration were equal to the task after responding to the committee’s questions at the Parliamentary Village in Polokwane.

 

Mokwele who spoke to The Azanian when pressed for comment expressed her satisfaction with Rachoene and his troops after being grilled by Scopa on Wednesday saying that they are taking their work seriously and indeed they are committed to remedy challenges faced by the department.

 

Rachoene’s department is moving with speed in implementing the committee’s recommendations with a view of ensuring that the department attains improved audit outcomes.

 

The MEC said:“The department is currently implementing measures to improve on how it handles its properties, financial statements and infrastructure implementation among others.”

 

The MEC who is leading a team of senior management accounting on issues covering the 2022/23 and the 2023/24 financial years, said the department has already prioritised the filling of vacant posts, a matter that has been long standing in the department. 

 

“In dealing with the high vacancy rate in the department, we are moving with speed to ensure that we appoint new staff members to capacitate internal capacity to achieve improved service delivery. We recently appointed 174 employees and in a few weeks time we will receive a second cohort of 150 employees,” Rachoene said.
