MK Party members.
Former ANC president Jacob Zuma has made his intentions clear that he wants to remove the ANC from power with his new uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
This was evident when the MK Party announced its high command structure of eight leaders during a media briefing in Johannesburg today (Thursday).
Former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu was appointed as the national organiser while Zuma remained the MK Party’s president, Dr John Hlophe his deputy president, and Dr Sihle Maseko as its secretary-general and Nombuso Mkhizwe as his deputy. Nathi Nhleko is MK Party’s new chairperson and Will Sibiloane is his deputy. And Menzi Ngubane announced the party's treasurer.
Zuma who missed the date to appeal and retain his ANC membership said the MK Party will not have a national conference anytime soon, but it has embarked on rebuilding itself to become a formidable force that will eject the “ANC of President Cyril Ramaphosa” from power.
He also said national and provincial elective conferences are futile exercises which give birth to calamity because people with money buy votes to be elected into positions.
Zuma also gave praise to his former political rival Shivambu who last week dumped the party that he formed 11 years-ago with EFF president Julius Malema.
“This is a young and principled leader whose politics are scientific... Only my brother here (Floyd) understood what I said when I said I will die as a member of the ANC. It is because I love history. I know history. The ANC was established by our elders, our traditional leaders, our intellectuals and our pastors to defend the black person who was being suppressed by the white man,” Zuma said.
“These leaders knew what they were doing, and they were uniting us because our unity was not at that level. All these traditional leaders were in their areas, but these leaders realised that the black person was being taken out of his own home.”
Shivambu also took a swipe at Malema who said people who left the EFF are sell-out and backstabbers who betrayed the EFF’s revolution.
“I will never betray the revolution, we are not in the business of trying to please each other's egos. We are in the business of building a revolutionary movement that is going to emancipate the black majority. We are unapologetic about that. It is what we stand for,” Shivambu said.
Floyd Shivambu was appointed as the MK Party national organiser.
